Alias is an Italian brand that wrote a crucial page in the history of Italian design, by exporting the quality of the Made in Italy across the five continents. Alias saw the light in Grumello del Monte, in Bergamo area, in 1979 at the initiative of a group of young designers, among whom Enrico Baleri, Carlo Forcolini and Giandomenico Belotti. Alias philosophy is grounded in three capital principles, correlated with one another and namely innovation, transversality and technological lightness. Such values have brought Alias from being a small business specialized in the manufacturing of
home furnishing and items, to rapidly gaining a seat next to the world leaders in this sector. The concept of innovation takes shape in the collaboration with internationally renowned designers, the technological orientation and the use of ever new, top-quality materials. Design seats and upholstery: Alias icons
Alias distinguished itself already in its early days in 1979, the year when Giandomenico Belotti’s
Spaghetti chair was created to then feature in the permanent MoMA collection in New York. In 1982, the great master Mario Botta signed for Alias the
Seconda-602 Chair and the
Tonda 614, today in the catalog as part of the
Botta collection. Towards the end of the ‘80s, the collaboration with
Alberto Meda was set off. The Frame chair opened the series of seating solutions that have enriched the
Frame collection up until 2015. This production grows to embrace timeless pieces, the emblems of quality and excellence. Among those, Riccardo Blumer’s
Laleggera chair was awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1998. In 2011 Alias brought new products to the Salone del Mobile, the
Tagliatelle stackable seating by Jasper Morrison and the Pearson Lloyd’s
Eleven upholstery. The latter stands for a fully-fledged modular, versatile and practical system thought for the comfort of people who are in transit or waiting in public spaces. The Salone del Mobile set-up designed by the architects Stauffacher and Sanguineti received the Honorable Mention of the XXIII Compasso d’Oro prize. In 2019 Atelier Oï joined Alias and authored the
E la nave va sofa. The structure is made of visible slats inspired from boat hulls, that bear the cushions on the backrest.

Okome collection marks Nendo’s entrance in Alias stable. This modular system made of elements of a sculptural and rounded volume, make up diverse seating configurations, including sofas, chaise longues and poufs, a stylish addition to the lounge area. Covered with eco-leather Serge ferrari®, camira® or kvadrat® textiles, they can be easily coupled with the
Okome coffee table with storage space, ideal to store cables. Alberto Meda signed
Biplane, a series of aluminum and MDF tables for the office environment, waiting rooms and reception areas.
