Handshowers

The hand shower is a small, manually operated shower head that can be connected to the wall or mixer by means of a flexible hose. The hand shower is placed on special supports placed on the up and down pole or anchored to the wall of the shower cubicle or bathtub.
The position on the up and down rod is particularly comfortable and functional: the shower head is usually blocked at a lower height than the classic shower head, approximately between 100 and 120 cm from the floor, closer to the mixer, with the advantage of being able to adjust its height at will.
The hand shower is an element of the faucet that is characterised by a perfect balance between technology, quality and design.
In addition to ensuring the desired shower experience, the hand showers will add a touch of originality to your bathroom.

How to choose the perfect hand shower: models and materials

The hand shower is one of the accessories that characterizes the shower corner of the bathroom and it is therefore important that it is chosen in line with the other elements of the faucet group, recalling shapes and finishes.
Showers are available on the market in different shapes and sizes, from the classic telephone models, practical and functional, to design hand showers, with clean and squared shapes, suitable for the most modern bathrooms.
In addition to the design, it is essential to consider the technical characteristics of this product such as the material, type of attachment and dimensions.
The chromed brass hand showers are among the most popular on the market, especially for those looking for an excellent compromise between cost and quality of the product, are perfect for those who prefer models with more elaborate shapes, even classic or round.
Those who prefer more precious finishes and minimalist aesthetics with clean and linear shapes, will certainly find among the stainless steel hand showers the one best suited to their needs.
In addition, steel is not subject to the constant use of detergents and, being stainless, does not rust.

Hand showers and number of castings

A substantial difference between the different hand shower models available on the market is the number of castings. The fixed jet hand shower is the simplest type, it provides just one type of vertical jet, usually a rain shower.
The 2-spray hand showers represent the first evolution of the product as they allow the sprinkler jet with the waterfall jet.
In the 3-jet showers, up to 4 jets, it is even possible to have combined jets and choose different types of massage functions, for total relaxation.
In the most technologically advanced models, the water delivery is regulated directly by the knob: a short press of the finger on the buttons on the back of the dispenser is enough to choose the jet you prefer. In the shut-off models it is possible to close the water jet directly from these controls.
In all cases, regardless of the size and design of the hand shower, the arrangement of each spray nozzle is carefully designed to ensure an abundant and even spray.

Flow rate of the hand showers: how to avoid wasting water

Like overhead showers, the flow rate of the hand showers varies depending on the mains pressure. For each hand shower, the flow rate diagrams in the data sheets specify the limit flow rate below which a homogeneous and comfortable spray cannot be guaranteed. On the market today there is a wide choice of hand showers with reduced flow thanks to their design or specific devices such as flow or flow limiters, placed inside them. For the smartest models, water consumption is reduced by up to 4 l/min, saving you money.

Shower maintenance and cleaning

To avoid the formation of halos and the accumulation of bacteria, it is first of all important to try to clean the hand shower after each use, even simply with a soft cloth and then dry it perfectly.
The problem that most affects the hand showers, however, is the accumulation of limescale which, if not treated properly, can prevent the normal flow of water from escaping from the shower nozzles.
This is a common inconvenience, which may occur more or less frequently depending on the hardness of the water, i. e. the amount of soluble salts and metals present in it. Regular cleaning of the hand shower will certainly slow down the deposit of limescale particles, but if this is not enough, it is advisable to use chemical or natural anti-limescale products (such as vinegar or lemon).
In the hand showers with an anti-limescale system, the nozzles are made of silicone to simplify the elimination of accumulated limescale, ensuring greater durability of the product. The plate is easy to clean and convenient to remove in case of maintenance or replacement.
