Founded in 1948 by Alberto Minotti in Meda, Brianza, Minotti is a globally recognised symbol of Made-in-Italy excellence in
contemporary furnishings. Initially conceived as an artisanal activity focused on
classic sofas, the company evolved into an industrial force in the 1960s. In the late 1990s, Alberto's sons, Renato and Roberto, took over and spearheaded the company's international growth; today, the third generation - Alessio, Alessandro, Susanna and Leonardo - contribute their diverse skills to the business.
Minotti furniture, intended for the residential and hospitality sectors, combines design expertise, craft skills and advanced production technologies. Present in 80 countries with over 50 flagship stores and a network of 300 distributors, the brand embodies a classic/modern lifestyle concept.
Minotti and Dordoni, a winning partnership
Renato and Roberto Minotti met the Milan architect and designer
Rodolfo Dordoni in 1997 when they began their successful partnership by presenting Dordoni's first collection of
chairs and tables, including the unconventional and rigorous cubic Suitcase armchair inspired by the world of fashion and luggage. Now a true icon, it found renewed expression in the 2019
Suitcase line, characterised by its original geometric austerity. Dordoni was appointed Art Director in 1998, a position he held until his untimely death in 2023. Since 2018, Minotti, with its creative vision shared by Dordoni, has collaborated with international designers and architects, stimulating multicultural confrontations with such figures as
Christophe Delcourt from France,
Nendo from Japan,
Marcio Kogan/studio mk27 from Brazil, the Italian-Danish
GamFratesi and the Japanese-Danish duo
Inoda+Sveje, further enriching Minotti's collections with their diverse perspectives.
The Minotti lifestyle
Under Rodolfo Dordoni's artistic direction, Minotti developed a comprehensive range for the home and
hospitality sector, including seating, armchairs, dining chairs, tables,
beds,
storage,
carpets and
textiles. The
Lifescape Collection extended Minotti's lifestyle
outdoors with the brand's understated, timeless aesthetic, handcrafted finishes, attention to detail, and the same atmosphere of warmth, intimacy, and balance characterising their indoor living solutions.
Minotti's iconic design
Launched in 2004, the
Hamilton seating system revolutionised sofa design with versatile modular combinations and ground-level bases, suggesting the idea of floating furniture. In addition to the Suitcase armchair, Rodolfo Dordoni's designs have become true icons: the
Aston sofa and armchair, with a retro vibe translated into graceful lines and light volumes; the
Freeman seating system, with its strong personality, elegant proportions and unparalleled comfort; and, for outdoor spaces, the
Florida seating system, with its extreme versatility and delicate, sinuous shapes. In the world of accessories, Minotti has linked its name to the rational style that characterises the Dordoni mark, with furniture like the sculptural
Van Dyck table and
Cesar, an object-sculpture with an eclectic personality, ideal as a small table, decorative element or seat, now available in seventeen colours and two different finishes, including an outdoor version. These successful pieces are joined by the
Tape and
Torii chair family, designed by the Japanese architecture and design studio nendo; the
Quadrado outdoor collection, a tribute to the metabolist movement of the 1950s and 1960s, by architects Marcio Kogan / studio mk27; and the recent
Lido and
Lido Cord outdoor collections by GamFratesi.
