An indispensable piece of furniture in our kitchens, over the years the refrigerator has become an element not only functional to practical needs but also aesthetic, because it combines high technology, design and furnishing lines that can be particularly attractive. In the kitchen as a system, the refrigerator represents one of the fundamental components, not only because food is stored in it, but also because its positioning will determine the functionality and aesthetics of the whole environment. Designers can therefore choose whether to opt for a model with visual characteristics of strong impact, so as to give great prominence to the whole environment, or choose a concealed refrigerator so as not to be almost recognizable within a kitchen already rich in personality and style.
When buying a refrigerator, the first distinction to make is between free-standing and built-in refrigerators. The former has the advantage that they can be positioned at will and are therefore on sight. The choice of color and design is therefore relevant in this case. The latter, on the other hand, should be placed in a niche inside the kitchen furniture. In this way, the front of the unit will perfectly match the adjacent furnishings. Specifically, a panel is applied above the doors that recalls the furniture in which it is inserted. In the case of recessed models, it is important to make sure you measure the size of the niche accurately and also make sure which direction the door should open. Finally, there are the undercounter refrigerators, designed to be placed and inserted under a worktop.
As far as the types are concerned, we are talking about combined, double door, American and single door refrigerators. The combined refrigerators are among the best-selling models, they are characterized by a refrigerator compartment at the top and a freezer compartment at the bottom. Double door refrigerators, on the other hand, are those in which the freezer, generally small in size, is located at the top of the appliance. American refrigerators are ideal for large families, as they have a very high litre capacity. These are generally expensive and available with two or four doors. Single-door refrigerators, on the other hand, are perfect for those who consume a large amount of fresh food, so much so that they are often without a freezer.
Glass door refrigerators are also highly sought after, because their design gives a special touch to the furniture and an elegant modern accent that perfectly matches any kitchen.
Whether it is a free-standing or built-in model, when you buy a refrigerator you must also consider the type of cooling, i. e. the way in which cold is produced to preserve food inside the refrigerator compartment and in the freezer. If once there was a static fridge, now there are new refrigerators with other types of refrigeration: ventilated and no frost. Ventilated refrigerators work in the same way as static models, with the addition of a fan which, placed inside the appliance, helps to move the cold air evenly in the compartment, so that the temperature is as uniform as possible on all shelves for optimal food preservation. In no frost refrigerators, on the other hand, the cooling mechanism is different: the English term refers to the fact that these appliances do not produce frost. Consequently, they do not need to be defrosted periodically. In fact, the cooling system is characterized by the presence of a motor that moves the cold air by means of special ducts and a double evaporator that works in the cold room and freezer independently of each other. Two-motor refrigerators, on the other hand, guarantee that they have two independent and independent units: therefore, in the event of a refrigerator failure, the freezer can continue to be used (and vice versa) because the two units are separate and distinct. But in addition to the technical features, it is important to choose carefully the model that best fits the kitchen furnishing style: in addition to the model, which can be steel, metal or glass, it is possible to choose refrigerators of different styles and colors.
Refrigerators have important functions that facilitate their use. For example, odor filters that ensure that the air inside is clean, thus preventing the proliferation of spores, bacteria or unpleasant odors. Many refrigerators are also equipped with quick freezing or quick cooling functions, useful because they quickly lower the internal temperature for a certain period of time. Another interesting function is automatic defrosting, which is useful because it saves time and effort. The energy class of consumption is also a feature that most influences the purchase of a refrigerator, which is constantly on 365 days a year: for this reason, modern refrigerators are all certified energy class A or higher.
Refrigerators are indispensable household appliances that cannot be absolutely missing in our homes. Element of the kitchen area able to catalyze attention for size and design, the refrigerator has the peculiarity, compared to other appliances, to be constantly on. Since it is a long-term investment and daily use, the choice must be made very carefully: that is why among the many criteria to be taken into account at the time of purchase, from the size to the type of construction, which are fundamental to organize its positioning, it is necessary to also inquire about its energy efficiency class. Other important aspects are certainly the useful capacity, functions and technologies offered. However, the basic choice of refrigerator must be made considering one's own needs and requirements, as well as the size of one's family. On the market, however, there are an infinite number of models with an unlimited number of peculiarities that vary from shape to capacity, from sizes to many optional extras.
