Toilet-jet handspray

We all know that hygiene and cleanness are essential requirements for bathrooms. Toilet-jet handsprays, also known as hydrobrush showers, are the technological evolution of the classic toilet brushes and make daily toilet cleaning easier and more efficient. By avoiding direct contact as on the contrary it happens with traditional brushes, the presence of microbes is significantly reduced.
From an aesthetic point of view, toilet-jet handsprays can be adapted to any type of bathroom. They are not characterized by an invasive design and are not meant to take much space either; hence they fit finely and discretely in any bathroom, be it new or already existing.
Thanks to qualities such as higher hygiene and minor size, toilet-jet handsprays are mainly common in public spaces and in the contract environment. Only in recent years they have taken hold in the design of private bathrooms giving a hint of elegance and sophistication that leave no space to conventional brushes.

Toilet-jet handsprays

Hydrobrush showers, as suggested by their name, are brushes that work by means of water. They are composed of a shower, a flexible hose and a water connection with a shut-off faucet to avoid accidental water leaking.
The shower features a shut-off lever to be activated for use; when not in use, it can be put back in the specific holder. The flexible hose is generally 150 cm long and connects the water connection with the shower, allowing to comfortably orient the nozzle jet.
It comes in a variety of materials, hidden or colored so to adapt to the bathroom style.
The water outlet activation can be manual or automatic. Once the tap has been switched on and the shower has been used with a slight pressure on the lever, it is advisable to switch the tap off since the shut-off button on the shower does not permanently stop water supply, but rather temporarily.
Toilet-jet handsprays are manufactured with materials that are suitable for taps. There are brass handsprays or ABS, EPDM rubber for the mechanic parts allowing to supply and stop water flow and stainless steel for the hose, in a way that performances, safety and durability are granted. To offer a better choice from the point of view of the design and especially of the quality, resistance to the use and durability, stainless steel toilet-jet handsprays are the most recommended for installation.
Toilet-jet handsprays work with a thin but high-pressure water jet that enable an efficient and safe cleaning of the toilet, ensuring cleanness even under the water level and, with specific handsprays, even inside the rim. Some practice on the spray orientation and jet control is enough to avert excessive water splashes while using this tool.
Noticeably, in spite of their similar appearance, toilet-jet handsprays and bidet showers are not to be confused. The first one, as it has been said already, features a jet with a pressure that is strong enough to remove residuals from the toilet; the second one, on the other hand, has a more delicate jet and has the same features as any other bidet tap. It can therefore be endowed with a mixer, or be thermostatic and it is useful for disabled people.

How to install a toilet-jet handspray

Thanks to the modest and discreet size, it is extremely easy to mount a new toilet-jet handspray. In recently made bathrooms the water plug for toilet-jet handspray is already there; otherwise, it is possible to use a cold water plug like the one of the washing machine, placed at a 60 cm height from the floor and distant 15 cm away from the toilet. If a specific connection is not there yet and the bathroom is under construction or renovation, it is necessary to ask the plumber to create a dedicated water plug.
In more ancient houses, not meant to house such a device, in order to avoid massive works it is possible to install toilet-jet handsprays by inserting a special piece with a three-ways or T switches on the plugs of other fixtures such as the washbasin or bidet - depending on their position in relation to the toilet; it is recommended to opt for the closer fixture-, or on the water inlet of the toilet tank.
Whether the water plug is there or not, these works require the help of a plumber. If the toilet tank is built in-wall, the toilet-jet handspray can be inserted directly within the toilet flush plate. It is a major intervention that also involves masonry, thereby requiring the intervention of a mason.

Discreet and modern design toilet-jet handsprays. Hidden models

Toilet-jet handsprays are an element of modern design characterized by material mixes and combinations. Hidden toilet-jet handsprays are always out of sight, particularly discreet and versatile. Perfect for design bathrooms, they can be fixed to the wall next to the toilet or into it and often are integrated with other accessories like the toilet roll holder and flush plates.
