Warming drawers are a compact appliance to be positioned in a standard linear kitchen, usually below the oven. Differently from what it could be commonly thought a warming drawer is to a large extent a versatile element that can be used in many different ways. Portable warming drawers on the other hand are made of an external structure that is usually made of plastic or steel. On the inside part you can have boxes and removable or fixed baskets of different size and capacity, depending on the models. The trays and baskets are made of stainless steel or plastic, and often have a non-stick, scratch-resistant inner bottom layer with an enamel coating. The lid can be made of plastic or glass; some models also have a vent valve. The lid and sides of the warming drawer feature some handles which make all movement handy. All the materials used are adequate to stay in touch with food and are all resistant and tested. Some models have an airtight closure, with pressure hooks that seal the drawer with an airtight closure. Others that are more technological come with timers and alarm clocks that sound when the necessary time to heat the food is over, LED switches and buttons to turn the heating function on and off or even to set the desired temperature.
Besides the merely practical facet, such appliances can fit in variety of contexts thanks to the design of the models available on the market. Built-in warming drawers come in a multitude of models. The smallest ones can contain about 15 flatware (around 64 cups and 40 dishes), while the most spacious drawers can contain almost 25 kg of flatware) around 190 cups and 40 dishes). In order to choose the model that best suits your needs it is always recommended to keep in mind the size of the kitchen and of the number of people you normally cook for. Such appliances demand the same cleaning of a classic gas-powered or electrically-powered oven. It is therefore fundamental to immediately remove all possible residues of food and grease with a wet cloth after each use. It will be possible to proceed with a more thorough cleaning at a second stage, by removing the dirt from the external walls using a soft cloth and an appropriate detergent.
